Energy Business Club

Center for Energy Efficiency (CEEF) is facilitating exchange and collaboration between stakeholders involved in the energy sector (municipalities, banks and manufacturers of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies). Banks and other financial institutions with specific loans or other financial schemes for renewable energy and energy efficient technologies are using the Center for advertising such schemes to targeted customers.

It is expected that B&H energy and renewable energy sector will experience major growth in the next couple of years. As a part of the cooperation with private companies ENERGY BUSINESS CLUB is established by CEEF with the aim to help companies enhance their competitiveness in B&H Market. Private companies supported CEEF initiative through installation of the technologies in the technology park free of charge.

Technology Park

RENEWABLE ENERGY TRAINING CENTER AND MINI TECHNOLOGY PARK

Energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies must be tangible and understandable to be widely used. Those applying, using, purchasing or funding renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies need to have confidence in these technologies, gained by visualizing technical solutions, showcasing products or even merely seeing how technologies function.

With the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in 2009 CEEF established Renewable Energy Training Center and Mini Technology Park (RERTC). RERTC acts as a platform for renewable energy and energy efficiency equipment manufacturers to advertise their equipment and products to targeted customers.

Types of exhibits include:

  • Technology exhibits in the form of models and equipment installed showing the application of the RE and EE.
  • Advertisement materials such as pamphlets of manufacturers of E/WE and RE, consultants, banks etc.
  • Touch-screen materials

Capacity Building

Training and capacity building of the potential users of the renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies is of importance in the process of development of the market. Trainings on various topics related to renewable energy and energy efficiency are offered as a service to municipal officials, communal service representatives, local businesses and others so they can identify situations in which renewable energy can contribute to local, national and regional needs and potentials.

Networking

In the last ten years CEEF established cooperation with over 100 stakeholders from different sectors: government, municipal, business and finance. Level of activities in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy substantially increased in the last two years in B&H. According to research done in December 2010 there are over 15 bilateral, multilateral, regional and national projects under implementation phase in B&H.

Cooperation between different stakeholders in the development process is of great importance in B&H  at this stage. Therefore, the CEEF created two cooperation forums up to now: Municipal Energy Forum (MEF) and Energy Business Club (EBC) which proved to be efficient mechanisms in project generation and cooperation fostering process.

MUNICIPAL ENERGY FORUM

Objective of the Municipal Energy Forum is to coordinate municipal stakeholder activities in energy efficiency sector in BIH. We aim to:

- Provide venue for municipal coordination of activities, projects and initiatives on energy projects in BIH

- Provide facilitation and support for SYNENERGY building energy efficiency activities

Experience from the field shows that there are several barriers that are preventing end users (municipalities-private companies-individuals) to access these funds:

  1. Lack of information about funding sources
  2. Lack of technical expertise in the identification, formulation and delegation of the project ideas
  3. Lack of expertise in the application process

FIRST MEETING OF THE ENERGY FORUM IN 2012

The First Meeting was held on June 11th in the Municipality of Novi Grad, Sarajevo (member of the Municipal Energy Forum) and was attended by 25 municipal representatives. List of participants is attached to this report.

The aim of the meeting was to:

  • Present  USAID / HELLENIC AID SYNERGY program plans related to investment project preparation
  • Present USAID / HELLENIC AID SYNERGY program activities and plans related to the Development of National Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Buildings (NEEAPBs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Present support mechanisms and financing opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in BiH for municipalities
  • Present ESCO concept in public-sector (case studies and lessons learned)

SECOND MEETING OF THE ENERGY FORUM IN 2012

The Second Meeting was held on October 04th in the Municipality of Hadzici, Sarajevo (member of the Municipal Energy Forum) and was attended by 11 municipal representatives. List of participants is attached to this report.

The aim of the meeting was to:

  • Present  USAID / HELLENIC AID SYNERGY program plans related to investment project preparation
  • Present support mechanisms and financing opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in BiH for municipalities
  • Present UNDP Software for systematic management of energy in municipalities
  • Present opportunities for RES(solar energy) project in public sector
